EWTN Series on Sacred Heart

Fr. Barney photoFr Bernard Mcguckian, SJ, Central Spiritual Director of the PTAA, presents a series on St Margaret Mary and the Sacred Heart. The series begins on Sunday November 3rd at 9am with repeats on Tuesday at 2pm, Wednesday at 8pm and Saturday at 1.30am

Check this out if you wish to know more about the history of the Sacred Heart devotion. The series will also feature an episode on the Pioneer Association and its contribution to society in the promotion of the virtue of Temperance.

Hearts and Minds

conference1Two hundred people attended the conference on addiction hosted by the Pioneer Association in All Hallows on 28th/29th September 2013. The theme of the conference was titled ‘The Spirit That Sets Us Free’ – Overcoming Addiction.

It was a great success and proved to be a very informative and educational weekend on the issue of addiction from a variety of different perspectives. Thanks to all those who attended our conference and especially to our speakers who gave such wonderful and inspiring talks. 

Major conference on spirituality and addiction

Fr. Peter McVerryPeter McVerry SJ, Denis Bradley (former 'go-between' between the British Government and the IRA) and US theologian Fr Jim Harbaugh SJ will speak at an international conference on the role of spirituality and faith in addiction recovery on Saturday and Sunday 29. 29 Sept. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will give the homily at a closing mass.

Guest speaker from the Unites States is Jim Harbaugh SJ who is both an AA an Al-anon member. He has written on the role of  Ignatian and 12 step spirituality in addiction treatment and is author of a well known book on a twelve step approach to the Sunday gospel readings.


Dublin to Host Major International Conference on Addiction and Spirituality

Peter McVerry SJ, Denis Bradley (former 'go-between' between the British Government and the IRA) and US author Jim Harbaugh SJ are among the speakers at an international conference on the role of spirituality and faith in addiction recovery. The conference takes place in All Hallows College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9 on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September 2013. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will attend and speak on the Sunday.

newsThe conference takes place against the background of newly released figures from the CSO showing that in 2012 Irish people spent €6.3 billion on alcohol, a 1.2 per cent increase on 2011. The aim of the conference is to explore the role faith and spirituality can play in tackling addiction, addressing those who suffer from addiction and those affected by the addiction of a friend or family member.

Guest speaker Jim Harbaugh SJ is a recovering alcoholic, AA an Al-Anon member. He has written and lectured on the role of 12 Step spirituality in the treatment of addiction. Peter McVerry will explain why he’s decided to abstain from alcohol as a stand against the havoc unleashed in Irish society by drug and alcohol abuse.

Faith of Our Fathers ExhibitionThe Pioneer Association will feature a stand at the Faith of Our Fathers Conference and Exhibition in the Hub, Cillin Hill, Kilkenny on Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September 2013.

It is an occasion to celebrate the Year of Faith. For those of you who are planning to come, we would be delighted to see you so make sure to pop by and say hello. Our stand number is 8. It promises to be a great weekend of excellent talks, workshops, lots of exhibitors so there is something for everyone.

Celebration in Chicago

chicagoAt Mass in DesPlaines, Illinois on Friday, May 17th, 2013 Jim Staunton was presented with the Fr James Cullen Medal in recognition for his services to the Pioneer Association over 60 years. Jim, born over 90 years ago in the village of Knock, where Our Lady appeared on August 21st, 1879, has convened a monthly meeting of the Pioneers since 1953.
