Tadhg Kelleher of Pearse Rd., Ballyphehane has been named March Cork Person of the Month, to mark his lifetimes work with the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association.
Tadhg has been chairperson of the Cork Regional Council of the Pioneers for many years, and also serves on the national central council and many committees within the organisation. He also organises and acts as M.C., of the All Ireland Readoiri talent competition.
On his days off from work, Tadhg visits schools in Cork, to talk on the dangers of alcohol and especially underage drinking, and encourages young people to become Young Pioneers and abstain from alcohol until they are at least 18 years of age.
“In a country where alcohol is often abused, Tadhg has spent a lifetime spreading the ideals of the Pioneer Association and that takes a particular kind of courage in the 21st Century” said Brian Crowley M.E.P., who made the presentation.
As well as the voluntary work with the Pioneers, Tadhg Kelleher is also a director of the Ballyphehane Credit Union and a member of the Turners Cross Choir. His name now goes forward, with the other Persons of the Month chosen this year, for possible selection as Cork Person of the Year at the Gala Awards function on January 21st next, at the Fota Island Hotel, Cork..
