Jesuit and Pioneer, Venerable John Sullivan’s cause for beatification moves a step closer

On Friday 7th November 2014, Pope Francis moved Irish Jesuit, Fr John Sullivan, a step closer to beatification when he approved the decree that he lived a life of heroic virtue.

Venerable John Sullivan S.J. (1861-1933) was raised as a member of the Church of Ireland. After a course of studies at Trinity College, Dublin, he qualified as a barrister. On December 21st 1896, he was received into the Catholic Church in London at Farm Street Jesuit Church and a few years later in Ireland he entered the Society of Jesus at Tullamore on September 7th, 1900. The intensity with which he embraced the religious life became very obvious to all who knew him from his first days in the novitiate As a priest he was known for his love of the sick and was indefatigable in visiting them in hospitals and their homes. Many cures were reported after his prayerful visits.

Pioneer Association in Trinidad

I was on holidays in Trinidad recently and had the opportunity to promote the Pioneer Association on Trinity TV. Trinity TV is the caribbean equivalent of EWTN Television. The interview lasts for approximately 30 minutes and highlights the purpose and motivation for being a pioneer. Enjoy!

2014 Rose of Tralee

Maria Walsh

Congratulations to 27-year-old Maria Walsh, the 2014 winner of the Rose of Tralee competition. Maria, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, grew up in the village of Shrule, County Mayo.  She studied Journalism and Visual Media at Griffith College in Dublin, graduating in 2009.  As a committed Pioneer, she spoke eloquently of her membership of the Association at the annual Festival, held in Tralee, County Kerry, which reaches an audience of over a million viewers.  Prior to her moving to Philadelphia in 2011, where she works as a Studio Manager for a clothing brand, Maria was involved in promoting the Association in Ireland and organising various youth activities with the National Youth Committee of the Pioneer Association for several years.  We wish her well in her role as the 56th Rose of Tralee.
